Introduction
After nearly two decades of following BigBang and Taeyang's career, I'm finally getting the opportunity to attend his solo concert! While he has done numerous world tours in the past, these primarily focused on Japan and the US markets, leaving European fans eagerly waiting. As one of my greatest musical inspirations, I've collected his albums and concert DVDs over the years.
Taeyang's style even led me to adopt his iconic mohawk haircut - much to my parents' concern, who worried I might be turning into a punk! Countless hours were spent in my room, learning his dance moves and watching his performances on repeat. Now, attending his concert feels like stepping into a time machine, bringing back 15 years of cherished memories and reminding me of my journey as a fan.
Taeyang, whose real name is Dong Young-bae, is one of the most influential K-pop artists and a prominent member of the legendary group BIGBANG. Debuting in 2006 with BIGBANG under YG Entertainment, he quickly became known for his exceptional vocal abilities, powerful dance performances, and charismatic stage presence.
As a solo artist, Taeyang has established himself as one of K-pop's most successful R&B singers. His breakthrough came with hits like "Eyes, Nose, Lips" and "Wedding Dress," which showcased his emotional depth and musical versatility. His unique blend of R&B, soul, and pop has earned him recognition not just in Korea, but across Asia and globally.
Beyond his musical achievements, Taeyang is respected in the industry for his dedication to artistry and his influence on Korean R&B. His collaborations with international artists and his consistent musical evolution have helped bridge K-pop with global music scenes, particularly in R&B and hip-hop genres.
Early Days: Discovering BigBang
When Taeyang began his solo career, he created a significant impact in the Asian community in Germany. His hit song "Wedding Dress" sparked a fashion trend - suddenly everyone was sporting mohawk haircuts, white button-up shirts, and black skinny jeans. I proudly admit I was one of them!
As someone deeply invested in Hip-Hop and R&B during the early 2000s, BigBang became my gateway to K-Pop. Initially skeptical about music in foreign languages, their unique blend of hip-hop, R&B, and pop helped me transition into the K-Pop world.
Big Bang - Concert Experiences
My journey with BigBang led me to their first European concert in London (2012), marking my second K-pop concert experience. Later, I witnessed their incredible 10-year anniversary concert. However, experiencing Taeyang's solo concert remained an unfulfilled dream - until today!

The Light Year Encore Concert - Inspire Arena (Incheon)
The concert venue, Inspire Arena, is part of the impressive Inspire Resort complex situated near Incheon International Airport. This newly constructed entertainment destination offers much more than just concert facilities - it's a comprehensive resort featuring hotels, spa services, wellness centers, and shopping areas.
Getting to the venue is convenient thanks to a complimentary shuttle bus service. The shuttle operates daily from Incheon Cargo Terminal Station, with a quick 15-minute journey to the resort. This makes it easily accessible for both local and international visitors attending events at the arena.
Concert Experience
As the concert began, the live band's powerful sound filled the arena, setting the perfect foundation for Taeyang's dynamic performance. The setlist was masterfully curated, weaving together his classic hits with newer releases, creating a journey through his musical evolution. When the familiar opening notes of songs like "Wedding Dress" and "Eyes, Nose, Lips" played, muscle memory took over - my body instinctively remembered dance moves I hadn't performed in over 15 years!
The backup dancers added an extra layer of energy to each performance, their synchronized movements complementing Taeyang's signature style perfectly. Their presence enhanced the visual spectacle without overshadowing the main performance, creating beautiful stage formations that brought each song to life.
Watching him seamlessly transition between high-energy dance numbers and emotional ballads. The concert felt like a perfect blend of nostalgia and contemporary artistry, proving why Taeyang remains one of K-pop's most enduring and respected performers.
Special Guests
Meovv - New Girl Group by Black Label
Meovv, a highly anticipated new girl group under The Black Label, made their debut appearance as special guests at Taeyang's concert. The group showcased their debut singles "Meow" and "Body," demonstrating their unique blend of powerful vocals and charismatic stage presence. Their performance style combines elements of modern K-pop with R&B influences, reflecting The Black Label's signature sound.
As the first girl group to debut under The Black Label, Meovv's appearance at such a high-profile concert signals strong support from the label. Their debut songs "Meow" and "Body" have already garnered attention for their sophisticated sound and compelling choreography, setting high expectations for their official debut.
Daesung
One of the most memorable moments of the concert was Daesung's surprise appearance, which sent waves of excitement through the crowd. Known for his incredible vocal range and magnetic stage presence, Daesung delighted fans with his characteristic humor and wit. His natural ability to engage with the audience through clever wordplay and puns in Korean had native speakers in stitches, adding an extra layer of entertainment for those who could catch his linguistic jokes.
Korean Encore
The Korean encore culture is a unique and beautiful tradition that sets K-pop concerts apart. When Taeyang announced "This is my last song," the energy in Inspire Arena transformed as fans knew what was coming. Unlike concerts in other countries where encores might be accompanied by random cheering, Korean concert audiences are known for their remarkable coordination and harmony.
As Taeyang returned to the stage for the encore, fans raised their banners in perfect synchronization, creating a sea of unified messages. What truly stands out in Korean concerts is the audience's ability to sing together like a well-rehearsed choir. The crowd's harmonious singing during the encore performances created an almost ethereal atmosphere that often surprises international artists who are more accustomed to screaming fans.
This synchronized fan participation, from the coordinated banner events to the harmonious singing, demonstrates the deep connection between Korean artists and their fans, creating an immersive concert experience that goes beyond mere performance and spectatorship.
What’s next?
Following Daesung's exciting hints during the concert, fans are eagerly anticipating potential upcoming events. The tease about G-Dragon possibly holding a concert in March 2025 has created significant buzz in the community. Additionally, there seems to be something special planned for April, though details remain under wraps. These hints suggest an exciting period ahead for BigBang fans, with potential solo activities from other members on the horizon.
Conclusion
Attending Taeyang's Light Year Encore Concert was more than just a musical event - it was the realization of a long-held dream. The concert beautifully showcased his growth as an artist while bringing back nostalgic memories of my early days as a K-pop fan. From the electrifying performances to the surprise appearances by Daesung and Meovv, every moment felt special and meaningful.
As someone who has followed Taeyang's journey from BigBang's debut to his successful solo career, witnessing his performance at Inspire Arena was particularly poignant. His ability to command the stage with the same passion and energy that first drew me to his music nearly two decades ago proves why he remains one of K-pop's most respected artists.
This concert wasn't just about enjoying great music - it was a reminder of how K-pop has shaped my life, influenced my style choices (yes, including that memorable mohawk!), and connected me with a vibrant community of fans worldwide. As I left Inspire Arena that night, I felt grateful not just for the amazing performance, but for all the memories, friendships, and experiences that my journey as a Taeyang fan has brought into my life.
